Melville Hill

Melville Hill is an area of quirky streets and houses built in the mid 19th century nestled on slopes above the centre of Torquay. It is with in walking distance of the many shops, harbour and tourist attractions of the English Riviera.
In 2007 a group of local residents formed the Residents of the Hill Association to encourage everyone living, working or owning property in the area to join forces with voluntary and statutory organisations to build a clean and safe environment that could be a place of pride in the heart of Torquay and further encourage and sustain positive growth and development that recognised the areas significant historic and cultural value.
By September 2010 ROTH had been able to get CCTV cameras in to the area which local residents felt was important to deter crime and anti social behaviour. Community garden spaces were developed near the main car park and signs of regeneration has lead to an increase in property prices.
In the same month, ROTH joined up with other groups, residents and businesses across the entire town centre region when the new Torquay Town Centre Community partnership was formed. The Melville Hill Community Group has replaced the independent element of ROTH to focus on the specific needs of our community.

Thank you to those residents past and present who have made donations to the community
MHCG will use the money to buy plants and bulbs to go in the community planters for everyone to enjoy this year
We also received donations from local people to fund the newsletter, Your Place and to pay for the hire of the hall at St. Lukes Church for the residents meeting.

We applaud Newham Council in London for introducing a compulsory register for social and private housing Landlords. We believe the same scheme has to be introduced here in Torbay to ensure that tenants and communities are safeguarded and to recognise the many good Landlords who provide high standard accommodation in our community. We believe the scheme won't suit the few ROGUE LANDLORDS, but we can't apologise for that.
If you are a Torbay resident please write to your Ward Councillors or the Mayor, Gordon Oliver and ask them to implement the scheme as quickly as possible

We welcome more residents to join us who are willing to pledge a small amount of spare time each week to our community. Help with litter picking and contacting local council teams to report dog mess found on pavements, flytipping etc.
